ONLINE WORKSHOP: Writing for Video Games

A portrait of Leena van Deventer
22 May 2021 - 10:00 to 4:00 PM
Leena van Deventer
In this workshop attendees will learn how to craft a narrative that is cohesive despite the challenges presented when introducing a non-linear interactive storypath. With an emphasis on strong world building and writing scenes into “encounters” instead of them happening chronologically, attendees will develop an appreciation for and understanding of interactive storytelling.

This session will take place online, via Writers Victoria’s online platform.

You will Learn:

  • How to modulate scenes into 'encounters' that can be experienced in any order
  • World-building from a video game perspective
  • What writing advice doesn't translate to interactive storytelling
  • How to craft your own interactive fiction
  • How to use Twine, a free browser-based program to map out interactive stories
