Summary:

Join author Marie Alafaci for a day of exploration and inspiration. We’ll look at what makes great nonfiction and explore what you’re writing (and why). Whether you have hopes of writing a cookbook, a listicle or a biography (and almost anything in between), whether you’ve got a half-formed idea or a whole first draft, this workshop will bring focus and energy to your project and help you develop a plan to complete it.

You will learn:

  • about the different types of nonfiction

  • how to analyse language, style and purpose in nonfiction works

  • how to use observational skills to bring nonfiction to life

  • how to stay motivated when working on a large project

  • how to research your potential market and potential publishers.

Bring along:

  • Bring up to three current works that represent the type of work you want to develop.

 

About Marie Alafaci

Marie Alafaci writes for adults and children and has been shortlisted for a number of fiction and nonfiction awards. She has had a biography on The Age best-sellers list and a picture book awarded as ‘Notable’ in the Children’s Book Council awards (and subsequently read on Playschool). Marie teaches writing, reviews books and has co-run a manuscript assessment service, Bedlam Books, for 20 years. Her current work in progress is a humorous, feminist, crime space opera.
