Currently in its 30th year, Writers Victoria is the busiest writers centre in the country supporting the careers of countless writers. They bring together four greats – Melanie Cheng, Andy Jackson, Angela Savage, and Christos Tsiolkas – reading work produced in our own backyard.

About Christos Tsiolkas

Christos Tsiolkas is the author of five novels: LoadedThe Jesus ManDead EuropeThe Slap and Barracuda, and the collection Merciless Gods. He has been longlisted for the Man Booker Prize, shortlisted for the Miles Franklin Literary Award and the Commonwealth Writers’ Prize, and his works have been adapted for film and television. He is also a playwright, essayist, and screenwriter.

About Melanie Cheng

Melanie Cheng is a writer and general practitioner based in Melbourne. Her debut short story collection, Australia Day, won the 2018 Victorian Premier’s Literary Award for Fiction. Room for a Stranger is her debut novel and second book.

About Andy Jackson

Andy Jackson has featured as a poet and a performer at literary events and arts festivals in Ireland, India, the USA and Australia. His most recent collection, Music Our Bodies Can’t Hold, consists of portrait poems of other people with Marfan Syndrome. Human Looking is forthcoming.

About Angela Savage

Angela Savage is an award-winning Melbourne writer, who has lived and travelled extensively in Asia. She holds a PhD in Creative Writing and currently works as Director of Writers Victoria. Her fourth novel, Mother of Pearl, was published by Transit Lounge in 2019.
